The background of the birth of Brilliance Xinri presents a unique characteristic of a cross-border alliance between a state-owned automotive enterprise and the leading electric two-wheeler brand. Brilliance Auto Holdings Group was once an important representative of Chinese independent brand car companies; Xinri (Wuxi) Development Co., Ltd. was founded by Zhang Chongshun, the actual controller of Jiangsu Xinri Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. Xinri Shares listed on the main board of Shanghai Stock Exchange in April 2017, becoming the first company in the electric bicycle industry to list on the A-share main board. The establishment of Brilliance Xinri is seen as a strategic measure for Brilliance to accelerate the layout of new energy vehicle business, and also as a key step for Xinri to cross over from two-wheeler electric vehicles to four-wheeler electric vehicles, building a mixed-ownership cooperative model of "state-owned qualifications + private operation".

Brilliance Xindai's brand positioning focuses on the microelectric vehicle track, with city commuting as the core target user group, mainly focusing on short and medium-distance urban travel scenarios. Development History

Joint Venture Establishment and Factory Construction (2018-2020): A cross-border alliance between Brilliance Auto and Xinri Electric Vehicle. In August 2018, Xinri Shares announced cooperation with Brilliance Auto to build cars; on November 24, Brilliance Xinri New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd. was officially registered, marking the start of cooperation on new energy vehicle business. The company is building a new energy vehicle production base in Wuxi Xishan District. The planned land use is about 800 mu, implemented in two phases — Phase I covers an area of 393.6 mu, with a building area of 120,000 square meters, designed for a complete vehicle production capacity of 100,000 units per year based on double shifts; the factory is laid out and constructed according to the standards of modern flexible manufacturing, covering the four major whole vehicle manufacturing processes: stamping, welding, coating, and final assembly.

First Model Mass Production and Off-the-Line (December 2020-2021): Brilliance Xinri welcomes the production node. In December 2020, Brilliance Xinri's first new energy vehicle was officially off the production line, taking the first step from the production line to the market. In June of the following year, two pure electric microelectric vehicles i03 and i03A were officially launched on the market, with prices of 75,800 yuan and 76,800 yuan respectively. Brand Matrix/Product Line

Brilliance Xinri i03. Brilliance Xinri's first mass-produced model, positioned as an A00-class micro pure electric hatchback, launched in June 2021. The vehicle body size is 3288x1670x1654mm, wheelbase 2185mm, adopting a 3-door 4-seat layout. The early version of i03 is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a rated power of 25kW, matching a 38.54kWh lithium power battery pack, with an NEDC comprehensive range of up to 410km. In fast charging mode, it can be charged from 30% to 80% in 45 minutes. As the facelift continues, the NEDC range of the later versions of i03 is divided into multiple different versions of 170km, 318km and 410km, with a price range of 43,900 yuan to 75,800 yuan. Standard configuration includes full liquid crystal instrument, multifunction steering wheel, rearview camera, rear parking radar, slope assist, and front and rear passenger airbags etc.. i03 is also the model that Brilliance Xinri delivered 100 units in batch for the first time.

Brilliance Xinri i03A. Brilliance Xinri's sister model, with a design style more inclined to technology and sportiness, adopting a closed front hood and through-type taillight design, launched in 2021 at the same time as i03 and released to the market first. The NEDC comprehensive range of the launch version is also 410km, with a starting guidance price of 76,800 yuan. The i03A expanded configurations such as faux leather seats and 9-inch central control screen on high-spec models. Driven by the 2025 local subsidy policy, the terminal actual price of i03A further declined, driving sales to recover to more than 3,000 units per month, entering the top of the microcar sales list.

Brilliance Xinri Peach. The car was pushed to the market around 2022, positioned as an A00-class micro pure electric commuting model. The product selling point focuses on space utilization — after the rear seats are folded down according to the ratio, the trunk volume can be expanded to 420 liters, meeting the needs of daily household and short-distance cargo transportation. Peach had a certain overlap and internal competition with some facelift versions of i03 at the beginning of the launch, and did not significantly improve the situation of the brand's overall market share being low. Production and delivery pace also tended to be flatter than the i03 series.

Market Performance

Brilliance Xinri's passenger car sales volume is relatively small and extremely unstable overall among new innovative energy brands. After the launch of the first model in 2021, the annual total sales volume was only about hundreds of units. In 2022, the brand's cumulative sales were about 1,204 units, and in the same year, the i03A model's monthly highest sales volume briefly reached a scale of 223 units. According to statistics from some media, in 2025, the i03A model's monthly average sales once exceeded 3,000 units, briefly ranking in the top five of the A00-class new energy vehicle sales list, with the market foundation expanding to a terminal scale of net increase of about 3,000 units per month. In terms of Xinri Shares' capital market data, in 2025, Xinri Shares' operating cash flow net amount jumped to 402 million yuan, with a year-on-year growth rate of 272.5%. According to the company's initial plan, the annual sales target was 30,000 units in 2021, 50,000 units in 2022, and the sales expectation for 2025 was set at 150,000 units, but the actual operating data was far from reaching the above planning targets. In the microelectric vehicle market, Brilliance Xinri has a high degree of overlap in market demand with models such as Wuling Hongguang MINI EV, Chery QQ Ice Cream, and Geely Panda Mini. Core Technology

Brilliance Xinri's whole vehicle R&D and manufacturing takes the Wuxi Smart Factory as the technical base. This factory adopts a modular flexible manufacturing system, with four complete process units of stamping, welding, coating, and final assembly and a PDI factory testing system (the testing annual production capacity design is 100,000 units based on double shifts). At the product technology level, Brilliance Xinri's core models basically adopt two power battery technology routes: ternary lithium and lithium iron phosphate. The i03 early version is equipped with a ternary lithium battery pack provided by Faraday Battery Jiangsu Co., Ltd., with a capacity of 31.45kWh to 38.54kWh, and the NEDC range performance is 318km to 410km. Fast charging efficiency has been continuously optimized since the early version — in fast charging mode, it can replenish energy to 80% battery level in 45 minutes. Some later versions of i03 facelift and Peach models switched to lithium iron phosphate battery routes, with the fastest charging time for lithium iron phosphate versions minimized to 0.75 hours. In terms of intelligence, Brilliance Xinri vehicles are equipped with a T-BOX vehicle intelligent management system, supporting mobile App remote unlocking/locking, vehicle health diagnosis, range query, etc. Although it is not equipped with L2 or higher level high-level intelligent driving systems, it has already matched a smart travel display system that meets the basic needs of commuting scenarios.

In terms of chassis handling, Brilliance Xinri did not directly apply Brilliance Group's own fuel vehicle chassis technology, but the whole vehicle tuning is believed to indirectly benefit from the vehicle handling experience accumulation formed during the long-term joint venture cooperation between Brilliance and BMW Germany. The specific suspension architecture is mainly based on MacPherson independent front suspension combined with torsion beam rear axle structure, adapting to urban comprehensive road conditions by lowering and equalizing center of gravity, strengthening body rigidity, and ensuring whole vehicle handling stability. The powertrain is mainly composed of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (rated power 25kW to 45kW), fixed gear ratio single-speed gearbox and battery management system. The record of Brilliance Xinri's own four-wheel new energy vehicles carrying out large-scale overseas sales and deployment is relatively limited, and publicly available information on export data is scarce. From the perspective of the overall business of its parent company Xinri Shares, Xinri Shares has a certain depth of two-wheeler electric vehicle channels and production capacity layout in the Southeast Asian market — including Indonesia's self-built factory, localization channel construction in Vietnam and the Philippines, ODM/OEM order acceptance etc.. Future Outlook

Brilliance Xinri relies on the channel and brand management experience accumulated by Xinri Electric Vehicle in the two-wheeler field, combined with the joint structure formed by Brilliance Group retaining only the original 33.4% equity holding, maintaining a bidirectional complementary development trend in the small pure electric vehicle market. After boosting sales through local subsidies in 2025, Brilliance Xinri intends to enter first-tier markets while retaining entry-level users in price-sensitive cities. In the future, Brilliance Xinri plans to reshape product competitiveness in terms of price positioning and configuration strategy — a more obvious shortcoming is that the i03 early version's pricing range was about 15,000 to 40,000 yuan higher than then-head competitors such as Hongguang MINI EV. However, it gained corresponding chain response after fitting the market through subsidies or terminal price cuts in 2025. From the perspective of product iteration, Brilliance Xinri still tends to continue deepening entry-level A00 new energy vehicles in product structure, taking power consumption efficiency, driving range and marginal configuration improvement of urban commuting as the main technical orientation.

In terms of operation management and company future development, in 2025, Xinri Shares, starting from the brand proposition "Master Core Technology, Travel More Fun", released the "AI Travel New Paradigm" intelligent two-wheeler upgrade strategy, and it is not excluded that in the future, part of the intelligent results will be submerged or transplanted to four-wheel vehicles within a period of time. Brilliance Xinri's intelligent cockpit level will be upgraded from the current entry-level, smartphone mapping adaptation level to all-domain AI scenario interaction capability.
